Wineries in the Basque Country
The winery of Vinos de los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal, S.A. was constructed round the original winery of 1860.
Nowadays, the premises centred on wine growing own La Catedral, a bottle rack where Marqués de Riscal keeps its best gem; a unique collection consisting of all the bottles produced since 1862.
Following the increase in wine production the premises were extended in 1883 as well as in 1968 and 2000. Nowadays together with the original winery, Foso, Vacala and San Vicente wineries make up the complex.
The City of Wine consists of the ancient Marqués de Riscal winery -the oldest of Rioja- and a new building designed by Canadian architect Frank O. Gehry. The complex holds a hotel, a wine therapy spa, an exclusive restaurant and a meeting hall.
Tours: From Tuesday to Sunday, bank holidays included. 10 Euro per person. It is necessary to reserve in advance for any date and timetable.
