Guggenheim Bilbao Museum

Turned into the symbol of the new Bilbao, Guggenheim Bilbao Museum presents one of the most ambitious cultural projects of the century. The permanent collection includes basically works of art of the most prominent artists of the second half of the 20th century, which is supplemented by exhibits lent by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and special programmes sponsored by the Foundation. Besides, some of the rooms are devoted to monographic exhibitions while others accommodate works specifically commissioned for the museum.

Contemporary Basque and Spanish State art is also represented through a selection of works, which consist of new acquisitions to the museum's permanent collection

They provide a large view of the most up-to-date art tendencies. The Guggenheim Bilbao boasts its own, singular collection, and also compliments the other Guggenheim institutions' collections throughout the world. The museum's holdings include pieces by some of the most important artists of the second half of the 20th century, such as Eduardo Chillida, Yves Klein, Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Clyfford Still, Antoni Tàpies and Andy Warhol, to name but a few.

With regards the permanent exhibitions, the following pieces stand out in particular: Richard Serra's The Matter of Time, Jenny Holzer's Installation for Bilbao, Jeff Koons' Puppy, Yves Klein's Fire Fountain, Louise Bourgeois' Maman, Jeff Koons' Tulips, Daniel Buren's Arcos rojos and Fujiko Nakaya's Fog Sculpture.

The Guggenheim Bilbao Museum, in addition to exhibitions, also houses concerts, festivals, conferences, screenings and workshops. Find out what exhibitions and events are on at the Museum.
