The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Antigua

The first record of the hermitage dates back to 1503. Located in the old royal causeway, many pilgrims worshipped it due to its location. The Stone Cross was planted in front of the hermitage -across the road nowadays. Children learning late to walk would be brought to the place and had to complete three laps. On every lap, they would kiss the cock carved on the lower part of the main cross. Later on mother and child would enter the hermitage in order to pray and lit a candle honouring the virgin or offer alms. The interior holds an unbeatable Gothic carving of the Virgin dating back to the 16th century. Likewise, there was an older carving (15th century) of María Magdalena that was transferred to Donostia-San Sebastián, later on.
