Art & Culture

Cultural Heritage

The Monterrón Palace was built in the 18th century in Herrera Baroque style. It consists of security grilles in windows and not many ornaments. The façade is a masonry work and hosts two coats of arms: one belonging to the Andikano-Zelaaa family and the other to the Aranguren-Unzueta family. Firm chains protect the former main entrance and facing the present entrance we will see a sculpture by Argentinean Marta Medici, made in 1986. Listed building since 1964, the former garden is a park nowadays where chestnuts, beeches, oaks, banana trees, and magnolias are planted, among many other species. What is more, there are also very old trees such as the giant sequoias, planted at the sides.
