Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Church (Tuesta)

The temple of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Tuesta is one of the best examples of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic style in the province of Alava.

Its date of construction is unknown, but it is believed it was erected at the end of the 12th century or beginning of the 13th century. Its façade, in Romanesque style, presents magnificent decorations depicting Bible passages. Its portico was built much later, in 1795. Inside, stands out the vault covering the church; despite its reduced dimensions, it is groined for strength. The main altarpiece is placed in a chapel facing South.

It was carved in the 16th century and its central image portraits the assumption of the Virgin Mary. Another of the temple's treasures is the sculpture of the Virgen Blanca, which dates back to 1300 approximately.
