Cultural Heritage

Beautiful Baroque palace built in the middle of the 18th century. Corresponding to the innovative mentality of the Age of Enlightenment, a theoretical treatise on architecture was developed, that is the reason why the building is unique. The Insausti Palace was the birthplace of Xabier de Munibe, Count of Peñaflorida, who was founder of the Academia de Azkoitia and Real Sociedad Bascongada de Amigos del País (Royal Basque Society of Friends of the Country), later in 1764. Following considerable restoration works, Insausti Palace reopened its doors in 2006 converted into the Real Sociedad Bascongada de Amigos del País. Offices, meeting rooms, lecture halls and a room for Historical Memory make up the building. What is more, it is also home to the International Institute Xabier de Munibe and Iraurgi Lantzen offices, entity working on the development of Urola Medio.
