This church's construction date is unknown, but the discovery of a medieval necropolis suggests there must have been a temple on this location from the very beginning of the Middle Ages. In fact, some people relate this temple to the church of Santa María de Izpea, which the Counts of Bizkaia -Don Iñigo López and his wife doña Toda- donated to the bishop of Alava in 1051. What seems evident is that the present church's recontruction took place in the 16th century. It has a square plan, one nave and an apse. Its roof covering is a cross ribbed vault with straight ribs. Two altarpieces stand out among the decorative elements: one behind the high altar, of Neoclassical style, and the other one in the chapel of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, in Baroque style.
