Cultural Heritage

Santa Ana's Arch is the only of the gates in the old city walls of Durango still standing today. It is located in the beautiful stone paved square of Santa Ana.

It was built in 1566, but replaced in 1743 by the Town Council, which decided to change the Renaissance door for a more contemporary one, installing a Baroque door.

It boasts a luxurious design: a two-level Triumph arch with a round arched pass. It was built in cut stone masonry.

Its upper level stands on a little terrace, an attic with the Austrias' royal ligneage coat of arms, and two cylindrical rooms on each side covered by a dome.
