The origin of the Santa Cruz hermitage located near the old part's ancient fountain is unknown, even if archaeological remains found in the place make us think that it is very old. In the 19th Century Debaýs Town Council wanted to knock down the temple because they thought that it was very small, deteriorated and located in a profane spot where festivals were held. Luckily, the Bishopric did not accept the suggestion. Tradition has it that this hermitage was worshipping place for those working in the sea: fishermen and seamen and iron carriers that took iron up the river towards different ironworks.
