Church of San Agustín de Etxebarria

The church of San Agustín is located in the neighbourhood of the same name, a few kilometres from Elorrio. Built at the beginning of the 11th century, and rebuilt again in the 15th century. The present church is of Basque Gothic style. It has one nave only, with ogival ribbed vaults. Inside, the magnificent Plateresque altarpiece stands out, with the image of San Agustin in the middle. The mummified bodies of the Counts of Tabira, founders of the church, rest in stone tombs. A portico surrounds the church, with an 18th century Baroque belfry.
