Arezpakotxaga-Mendibil Palace

Arezpakotxaga-Mendibil palace is an extraordinary building, one of the noblest and oldest in Elorrio. One of the first buildings built in Baroque style, with sober decoration, it acted as a model for the other palaces in the area. It is a cubic-shaped building with two floors plus an attic. Walls are in brown cut stone masonry, except the ground floor and the western façade, in plain masonry. The coat of arms prevails in the building, divided between the main façade and the eastern one, a location chosen so that it could be seen from any side as one approaches the building from the main square. To the West, stands out a spectacular gallery with four semi-circular arches on Tuscan style columns. Also remarkable is the small tower attached to the eastern façade, a remain of the old walls that used to enclose the village. Type: Palace. Style: Baroque. Period: 17th century. Guided visits: Guided visits must be prearranged with the local Tourist Office by calling a fornight in advance. Tariff: Groups of up to 20 people: 25 euros. Groups up to 40 people: 50 euros.
