Art & Culture

Cultural Heritage

The church of Santa María is located in the urban centre of Gernika, near the Assembly House. This religious building, built in the 15th century, stands out because it merges Gothic and Renaissance styles.

This beautiful carved stone and masonry work temple has three naves finished in apses and Gothic cross ribbed vaults. It stands on its eight elegant and classical columns in Ionic style.

It possesses an excellent Walckler organ dating back to 1889 and a beautiful belfry by Manuel Capelastegui.
