Church of Santiago Apóstol

Church of Santiago Apóstol

Art & Culture

Cultural Heritage

The nice church of Santiago Apóstol was built in the 16th Century, enlarged and built again in 1602. In Renaissance style, its belfry maintains a formal dialogue with that in Valdespina palace, just opposite to it. The belfry is Baroque, with an octagonal bell room, and it is finished with a dome and a pinnacle. The church has only one nave with side chapels. The high altarpiece is a spectacular work in walnut tree without polychrome with Solomonic columns full of decoration. It has Polychrome sculptures, the one of Santiago prevailing among them.
