Old Square houses

Those houses are known as casas de labranza (farm houses), where farmers used to live. Their architecture is not very common in Bizkaia's houses. They have wooden balconies upon the street that protect the grass and carriages from rain. Most times houses consisted of a ground floor and the first floor. Some of them held a second floor that was used as an attic. Nowadays, as they have lost their function as farmhouses, many of them have been restored.
