The first documents of the hermitage of Santiago date back to the 15th century. However, some of its characteristics seem to suggest that it comes from prior periods as, for instance, a trumpet-shaped Romanesque style.
Nowadays the building belongs to heirs of paintor Ignacio Zuloaga. It was the artist himself who, at the beginning of the 20th century, restored the hermitage and built next to it a museum and private studio.
As a consequence, it is the best opportunity to admire Zuloaga's best works and a magnificent private collection formed by works of renowned artists such as El Greco ("El Cristo de la Cruz") and several sculptures by Rodin.
