Bolo house

Basque farmhouse El Bolo

Art & Culture

Cultural Heritage

The farmhouse El Bolo is a good example of local defensive architecture from the 15th and 16th centuries.

The building comprises two parts: the tower (15th century) and the palace (16th century) and combines different architectural features, the popular rural characteristics of the Basque Country and the formal elements typical of the Lower Middle Ages.

The construction mixes cut stone masonry in windows and corners, and wood and brickwork in the second storey of the palace. Its tower is a compact construction meant for defense, but at the same time includes several windows.

On the ground floor, the palace is open by an arcade and beams lean on five sandstone columns. Currently, it is a private residence.
