Ekoetxea Meatzaldea

Located in the heart of the mining area and the biotope, Ekoetxea Meatzaldea is a facility for information, education and environmental awareness.

It has two sites: one in Ortuella (Peñas Negras) and the other in Abanto-Zierbena (Gallarta), two strategic points for appreciating and enjoying the unique landscape full of contrasts.

The exploitation of iron until the beginning of the 20th century has left traces in a large area of north-western Bizkaia, whose values are associated with mining activity and the legacy it has left behind. Countless remains of infrastructures, artificial lakes or shafts and other elements have created this peculiar landscape.

With the aim of showing the geodiversity, biodiversity and all the cultural heritage of the mining area, Ekoetxea Meatzaldea consists of exhibitions, rooms with audiovisual content and free activities for families and the general public.
