Rioja Alavesa looks to gain Biosphere sustainable tourism certification

Rioja Alavesa has begun the process to earn the certificate, awarded by the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI) under the auspices of UNESCO. The county, the province and the Basque Government - through Basquetour - are working together on this project. This certificate, which rates aspects like environmental conservation and improvements to cultural heritage, provides higher visibility on the international tourist market, especially in the areas of green and sustainable tourism. Rioja Alavesa has the most to offer in the area of wine holidays: small family wineries, large cutting-edge buildings, vineyards, historic villages and more.
