Discover Basque Country
This was a record month for tourism in the Basque Country, with over 333,000 visitors arriving, up 3.4% on last year, and 4.3% more overnight stays. Bizkaia was the region that saw the biggest rise, up 4.9%, followed by Gipuzkoa at 3.9%, while Araba was down 1.9%. One of the most positive features of this considerable increase in foreign tourism is that it is distributed across the regions, showing that the Basque Country has a solid, varied range of attractions to offer rather than depending solely on a few specific places. The average length of stays has risen to 2.19 days, surpassing the figures for August 2015. Country holidays are also doing well, with 24,522 arrivals recorded this August, 6.8% up on the same month last year. Once again, this confirms that the Basque Country is one of the top Spanish destinations for international visitors
