The Vuelta a España arrives in the Basque Country
The 17th day of the cycling event Vuelta a España 2018 will take place in Mount Oiz. The competition will remain true to its roots and committed to the visual spectacle of mountain cycling.

On September 12th, the third week of this cycling competition, the stage will end at the so-called “Balcony of Biscay” “: a viewpoint from which one can admire the landscape, from the Bay of Biscay to the mountains of La Demanda, and from Reinosa to the Pyrenees. The 166km stage will bring some of the best views of the Basque Country to the world of cycling and will play a key role in the outcome of the competition. The stage will begin at Getxo Marina and will pass through places as varied as La Arboleda recreational area, the new Bilbao and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, a landmark location for the TV series Game of Thrones. The cameras will also pan over the coast of Bermeo and Gernika, and will record the “Balcony of Biscay” for the first time, before descending to Aulesti and returning to Munitibar, a vantage point over the “Urdaibai Estuary Biosphere Reserve”. They will then move across to the colossal Mount Oiz, which features mind-blowing slopes with a gradient exceeding 20% across a distance of 5 km. The audience will be treated to beautiful 360-degree views of the Basque coast. The roadsides are sure to be packed with people supporting the competition and this specific stage whose beauty and excitement will remain embedded in their memories forever.
