The new cider season looks promising
Despite being another abnormal season due to the pandemic, the latest harvest has been a historic one.
The opening of the 19th Sagardo Berriaren Eguna, organised by Sagardoaren Lurraldea at the Gurutzeta cider brewery in Astigarraga, kicked off the 2022 txotx season. During the event the Basque deputy minister for tourism, trade and consumer affairs praised the sector for its hard work and resilience in the face of the pandemic.
This year the AMAK Taldea started off the season to the cry of “Gure Sagardo Berria!” after planting the traditional new apple tree in Sagardoetxea.
A new addition this year is guided tastings, offering the chance to try different types of cider before lunches or dinners. These can also be booked online through the website sagardoa.eus.
There is a wide variety of cider breweries in the Basque Country at which to try menus featuring delicious ribs, cod omelettes and fine cheese. In the cider season our finest food and drink can be enjoyed at any of our sagardotegis.
