Surfing EuskadiThe waves and the sea are forces of nature. You should respect them and understand how they work so as to surf in the safest way possible. Know your limitations and always respect the safety indications given at each beach.

Surfing safety

Surfing Euskadi - Study the conditions.
- Check your surfing equipment.
- Never surf on your own.
- Surf where you are sure you are at your level.
- Respect the surfing code of conduct.
- Do not mix surfing with alcohol or drugs.
- Do not surf at night.
- Wait at least 30 minutes after eating before going into the water.
- Watch out for signs of dehydration or hypothermia.
- If you get into problems, always have your board near you.
- Be familiar with the safety norms of the beach you are at.
- Stretch before surfing.

- Take some surfing lessons before beginning to surf.

The Surfing Code of Conduct

Surfing EuskadiThe surfing code of conduct is made up of a series of universal norms that try to define the unwritten laws of surfing so as to make it safer. This code should be followed by all surfers whatever level they are at.

Follow these simple norms for your own safety.

Do not drop in on other surfers.
The surfer who is nearest the area where the wave is breaking has priority to surf it. Wait your turn in the line-up. Beginners should not go to the line -up until they are convinced that they can catch waves in as controlled a manner as possible. Line-up: The zone where waves begin to break.
Paddling towards the line-up.
Do not paddle towards the line-up through the impact zone of the waves, as other surfers will be riding them. Surfers riding the wave always have priority.
Communication.
When you catch a wave, always let the other surfers know your intentions and what direction you are going in.
Do not let go of your surf board.
Sujeta tu tabla cuando pases las olas y aprende a pasarlas por abajo. Nunca sueltes tu tabla, puede lesionar seriamente a otro surfista.
Respect the beach and the ocean.
Respect local surfers, do not try to have every single wave for yourself and respect more experienced surfers. Keep the ocean and the beach clean.
