A visit to the old Mirandaola Ironworks followed by a tour of Chillida Lantoki, where Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida transformed iron into art, and finally a visit to the ´cathedral of Basque farmhouses´, including transport by coach and a guide.
You´ll meet in Donostia-San Sebastián and travel by coach to the Basque Museum of Iron, where you´ll learn about the significant role iron has played in the history of the Basque Country.
You´ll travel back in time at Mirandaola, a former ironworks, where you´ll witness a truly unique display as blacksmiths dressed in traditional 16th-century garb demonstrate how to work with red-hot iron.
Your journey to the Basque Country´s ´age of iron´ will conclude with a visit to Chillida Lantoki, where sculptor Eduardo Chillida worked to transform iron into art. Finally, after some free time for lunch, you´ll visit the ´cathedral of Basque farmhouses´, Igartubeiti, located in the town of Ezkio-Itxaso. In 1630, during the heyday of the Basque farmhouse (or baserri), the residents of Igartubeiti expanded and renovated the house in order to adapt to the new ways of life and work that were emerging in the valley.
