For Christmas, different towns and villages around the Basque Country hold craft markets where the public can buy products straight from the people who make them.
So at the Arenal in Bilbao you can visit the city's Gabonart craft market, with stalls selling high-quality pottery, costume jewellery, toys, leather goods, carved wood, textiles and more, all sold by the people who create them by hand. As well as the exhibitors, there will also be demonstrations of trades, workshops and lots more surprises.
The Christmas market in Vitoria-Gasteiz takes place on the Calle Independencia and in the Plaza de los Celedones de Oro, hosting a variety of stalls selling handicrafts, both local and from elsewhere. It is a chance to choose some very special presents from the wide range of handicrafts made of wood, pottery, silver, silk and glass, as well as natural cosmetics and more.
Inspired by the Christmas markets of central Europe, the Christmas market in San Sebastián is an unmissable date for both locals and visitors. The Paseo del Urumea and the Plaza del Buen Pastor are filled with the culture of the city: tradition, history, handicrafts, food and drink. There is also a tent where a range of activities, workshops and shows take place.
