Coast Surfing Beaches

The beach is one of the biggest attractions when it comes to planning your summer days, and the truth is that on the Basque coast we have a wide variety of sandy beaches, even inland!

Here we don't need the sea to be able to enjoy a good stretch of sand. What's more, you can enjoy our beaches at any time of the year, as most of them are the setting for events such as triathlons, surfing championships, and regattas.

They are perfect for pleasant walks even in winter, great for recovering strength and filling the lungs with fresh air and resetting body and soul. Some brave people don't miss their daily dip in the Cantabrian Sea, a good plan for the most daring people. Even so, it is usually in summer that they are most popular, as they are excellent for all kinds of water activities, walks, reading and even just relaxing on a towel, practicing the well-known "round trip".

Do you want to know the best beaches to visit this summer? We present to you our top 5 to enjoy with your family.

1. Beaches of Garaio, Vitoria-Gasteiz (Araba/Álava)

There are also beaches without sea, discover them!

Located around the Ullibarri-Gamboa reservoir, these inland sandy beaches are awarded the blue flag year after year. The accessibility, the quality of its waters, and services such as showers, parking, lifeguard service, and others make it a safe and favourable place for families who visit them.

Garaio Norte and Garaio Sur, with more than 2,600 in length and 116 hectares of green space, this area offers a wide variety of activities: hiking, water sports, recreational areas, guided tours, and even summer workshops for children.

The perfect beach for the whole family!

3. Beach of Hondarribia (Gipuzkoa)

Take postcard photos to remember its beautiful landscapes

Especially known for its width and calm waters, Hondarribia beach is protected thanks to the breakwater that runs along with one of its sides. It is located in the beautiful bay of Txingudi and is made up of 700 metres of fine golden sand.

The absence of waves and currents makes it suitable for bathing and swimming with the little ones, and its shore is perfect for playing paddle and making sandcastles. Moreover, the fact that the sea is so calm makes it ideal for snorkeling, canoeing, and even a ride on a jet skiEnjoy its calm sea!

4. Beach of Isuntza, Lekeitio (Bizkaia)

Can you imagine walking to a dream island? In Lekeitio it is possible

Isuntza is one of the most accessible beaches on the Biscayan coast, as it is in the town centre, next to the port and next to the square where the town hall of Lekeitio is located.  There is also a park above it with benches and swings for the whole family to relax for a while after a day at the beach.

Among the activities to do on this sandy beach, canoeing, diving, paddle surfing, and/or beach volleyball stand out, but one of its great attractions is undoubtedly the island of Garraitz, also known as San Nicolás. It can be reached via the stone path at low tide, or by swimming at high tide. An adventure that the little ones will never forget.

Go a few lengths to Garraitz!
