Mutriku
The Berdel Eguna or Mackerel Day is beyond all doubt one of the most popular and more crowded events of Mutriku. The initiative was launched more than ten years ago by the San Pedro Fishermen's Guild and aims to promote and to spread the quality of the mackerel.
Although several activities will be organised on the days leading up to the festivity, such as the presentation of the "Berdel aipamena" award, or photography exhibitions, the main Mackerel Day celebrations will be held on April 6th. People attending the celebration will have the opportunity to taste this fish cooked in a dozen of different recipes. In fact, thousands of pintxos will be served in the famous port of the village, with a common ingredient: mackerel.
The local catering establishments will also distribute tapas made with mackerel.
