HIGHLIGHTS
For four days, Azpeitia becomes a place which is a must to visit for all those wanting to enjoy an unbeatable festival atmosphere. That is why the St. Ignatius fiestas in this Gipuzkoan locality are among the most visited in Euskadi. Although during the previous weekends various activities are organized, the fiestas officially begin on July 30th at midday, with the traditional txupinazo (the ceremonial rocket signalling the start of the fiestas).
Religious processions, musical performances, parades with traditional folkloric music played in the streets, games and a local lunch with everyone eating together round off the day's programme.
The next day, coinciding with the feast of Saint Ignatius ¿patron saint of Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia-, high mass is celebrated in the parish of San Sebastian de Soreasu and a procession runs through the streets of the old quarter of the Gipuzkoan town.
