Zerkausia kalea, Tolosa
The famous weekly market in Tolosa is held in three open-air spaces: At the Tinglado marketplace, in the old town, local farmers (or baserritarras in Basque) come here every Saturday to sell their freshest products; at the Verdura plaza, a flower and plants fair is held every week; foreign and textile products are sold at the Euskal Herria plaza.
This market, one of the most important in the Basque Country, has more than 760 years of history. Since 1256, it has been the meeting point for traders and consumers, the perfect place to buy typical products brought directly from the market gardens of the nearby farmhouses.
Tolosa beans, piparras or chilli peppers from Ibarra, Idiazabal cheese, apples from Errezil, all kinds of vegetables and even homemade bread and pastries are some of the star products that you can buy if you visit the market.
