Calle de Jesús Guridi, 6, Vitoria-Gasteiz
Traditional markets not only have the plus points of tradition and quality, but also maintain intact all their character as a meeting point, a public place where the heart of the city beats.
This is certainly true of the refurbished Vitoria-Gasteiz market, whose building and facilities have been adapted to suit today’s model of shopping and leisure, in the style of the widely-known markets of San Miguel in Madrid or La Boqueria in Barcelona.
As well as the traditional stalls which continue to offer the finest fresh produce, especially that from the farms of Alava, the market features eight gastrobars laid out around a large shared central space, a former wash house, where visitors can eat whatever they choose for themselves from the stalls and, of course, from the range on offer at the surrounding gastrobars, which includes cooked dishes, pintxo snacks, hamburgers, Mexican and Italian food, Spanish omelettes and sushi.
A place not to miss on your visit to Vitoria.
