Apple and cider festival in Hernani

Included in Basque Fiestas (Euskal Jaiak or Fiestas Vascas) Hernani will play host the Apple and Cider Festival on September 20th. The activities' programme announces that the festival will kick off at 9am with a group of "txistularis" (Basque flute players) walking the streets. At 10:30am an apple exhibition will be available by Manuel Iradi (Zabaloenea farmhouse) and Mari Carmen Uranga (Erroxali farmhouse) in Plaza Gudaris Square.

Moreover, from 11am to 11:30pm all the people who want to come to Hernani will have the chance to taste a top quality cider from a dozen local cider houses.  A stall selling pintxos will accompany the cider. There follows an exhibition on apple harvest at noon.

Soon after, the attendees will have the possibility to see how cider is made with Joxe María Irizar, who works for Barkaiztegi Cider House. The fair also displays utensils to produce the prized drink. More activities would be a trikitixa contest (a two-row Basque diatonic button accordion), a mycological exhibition organised by the association Urretxa, Basque pelota matches in Paseo Ezkiaga Promenade, a popular meal, a Basque dance exhibition and music performances.
