Arrantzale eguna (Fisherman's Day) in Ondarroa

Location Ondarroa

17 August

One of the most important days of the festivals in Ondarroa is the Arrantzale Eguna or Fisherman's Day.

Just like every year, on August 17th, the coastal town will be decked out in navy blue to celebrate the big day on their calendar. Following tradition, nankeen clothing and espadrilles will fill the streets with colour and the bars in the port will welcome the groups of friends on this festive day. The festivities will start in the morning, and there will be a multitude of activities for kids, such as traditional folkloric music played in the streets by groups of locals, dances, a procession and a firework display that will delight the whole family. The emblematic characters known as Kortzeleko Mamuak will bid farewell at midnight.

Following the tradition that a group of young people from the village started in 1957, for another year Ondarroa opens its doors to anyone who wants to enjoy a pleasant day in this coastal town of Bizkaia.
