The city wall enclosing the old part of Hondarribia is one of the clearest testimonies of the village's medieval origin. Its structure underwent many extensions as a consequence of the development of the city.
The thick and high walls built in masonry with limestone from Jaizkibel surrounded the city till the end of the 18th century.
The Santa María turret, the bastion of the Queen, the San Nicolás fortress and the Santiago bastion are structures that have survived until today, we cannot say the same about the Magdalena bastion, whose remains are underground, right under the current city.
