Cultural Heritage
Plaza de la Constitución (Constitution Square) is located in the heart of the Old Town. It was the most important and charming spot of San Sebastián for centuries. The former town hall -the building that houses the city's public library nowadays- was situated there and was the meeting point for many citizens during festivals, etc.
These days, the square is still the centre of many significant events. The city flag is hoisted from the former town hall's balcony, which marks the beginning of San Sebastián festivity. Besides, the city's most important performances and cultural activities are still held there. Crowds of people get together at the square in Santo Tomás Fair.
Visitors will notice that the tiers of balconied apartments are numbered. Bullfights were held there long ago and the numbering alludes to the balconies that were used as boxes.
Plaza
Plaza de la Constitución plays host to many cultural activities throughout the year: txistularis, dantzaris, Caldereros, Santo Tomás Fair, Cider Day, and so on.
