Located in the plaza de las Armas Square, in the walled old part of Hondarribia, the Castle of Carlos V dates back to the times of the Goths.
In the past, this building was both a castle and palace. Thus, it was used to lodge important people and members of the royal family. The building had two lateral naves covered by very high ogival vaults. In 1794, the French army destroyed part of the building.
Since 1968 the building operates as a tourist hotel. Beautiful corners and rooms decorated with coffered arches surround the visitor with an atmosphere of indescribable beauty. Spears, cannons and armours are part of the decoration providing the atmosphere with a touch of elegance.
