Designed by the architect Francisco de Urcola. The Victoria Eugenia Theatre of San Sebastián was inaugurated in 1912 and it is one of the most glamorous buildings in the city. Of Plateresque style, great events of the cultural life of the city took place in this building, such as the Musical Fortnight or the prestigious International Film Festival of San Sebastián.

The facades and main foundations are made of sandstone and the dome and the roof of the stage mark the characteristic silhouette of the building. Besides, the towers at both sides of the staircase form a sort of frame of the main facade.

The glamorous theatre offers wonderful views of the River Urumea and Kursaal Congress Hall and Auditorium.

Following six years under construction works, the theatre reopened in March 2007 and now has new facilities, such as a dancing room and one space where many activities are performed, such as concerts, recitals, conferences, and so on. Moreover, technical improvements have been introduced, the stage has been enlarged and the seating capacity has been reduced to 890 in order to improve the comfort.
