Agorregi Foundry and Mills

Agorregi Foundry and Mills

Situated in the heart of the Pagoeta nature park, near the hamlet of Iturraran, the ironworks and mill complex is made up of the Agorregi ironworks and four mills, as well as a whole infrastructure of reservoirs, dams and channels.

A place that has withstood the passing of time and is home to a centuries-old tradition that represents Basque culture to perfection.

Nowadays, as 250 years ago, visitors can see how the iron was hammered and shaped, and admire the enormous bellows powered by hydraulic energy that was used to get the fire going. It also attracts attention the multi level reservoir system, which is very original and effective.

Permanent exhibitions:
Ironworks, mills and dams.

But Agorregi is far from being an antiquated place. The vitality of the water that rushes beside it and which has been so important to the place is reinforced by the verdant nature amid which its solid walls are set. Yet the green of the mountains does not invade the site, but thanks to the versatility of the place forms yet another part of it. A part that makes the Agorregi complex a fairytale setting.
