Basque Museum. Basque Ethnographic and Historical Museum

TEMPORARILY CLOSED

The Basque Museum depicts the Basque ethnography making use of varied items and objects. The museum is located in the Old Town of Bilbao in a building that used to accommodate the former Jesuit School of San Andrés (1604) and the former Mercy House. The valuable edifice and its cloister guard significant treasures, starting from the oldest traces of Biscay to the evidence of the traditional lifestyles of the Basque people. The collection is divided into different rooms devoted to prehistory, the sea and fishing, shepherding culture, the ironworks and gunsmith industry, commercial activity, and the traditional trades and craftsmanships such as pottery and fabric making. An amazing scale model of Bizkaia completes the exhibition. Visitors will encounter popular and worship pieces of furniture spread all over the museum.
