Restoration works of the Cathedral of Santa María

Praktika Onak Euskadiko Turismo Etika

Saint Mary’s cathedral, known as the Catedral Vieja or Old Cathedral, is one of the treasures of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

It stands in the heart of the city’s almond-shaped Mediaeval quarter, and attracts thousands of tourists every year. Discover this Gothic cathedral for yourself with a guided tour lasting an hour.

Tours must be arranged in advance by telephoning the visitor centre on 945 255 135, sending an email to visitas@catedralvitoria.eus or via the website of the Fundación Catedral Santa María. Tours are available in Spanish, Basque, French, English, German and Italian.

As a curiosity it should be noted that the well-known British writer, Ken Follet, was inspired by the Cathedral when it came to writing World Without End, which is the sequel to The Pillars of the Earth, his most popular work. Guided tours: Tours by previous appointment. Call Visitor Reception Centre, send an e-mail or enter The Cathedral of Santa María Foundation website.
