Sarria Parketxea

Gorbeia nature park visitor centre

The Sarria nature park centre or Parketxe is the visitor centre for the Álava side of the Gorbeia nature park, in the municipality of Zuia. Together with the visitor centre in the locality of Areatza in Bizkaia province, this is the place to discover the biggest nature park in the Basque Country.

The Sarria visitor centre is in the spot known as Central de Baias, where the river of the same name runs beside the path leading to the mountain of Gorbeia. The visitor centre in fact offers different routes to climb Gorbeia, from family-friendly ones like the Zarate or Murua paths to that of Atxuri, of some technical difficulty but extremely beautiful.

During the academic year the centre hosts school visits as part of its educational programme. It also runs a programme of activities open to the general public, highlights of which include watching the deer roaring in the Gorbeia nature park. This is a natural phenomenon that takes place in September and which can be spotted from specific observation points in small-group visits for between fifteen and twenty people, by prior arrangement.

The Sarria visitor centre can be reached by car and has leisure facilities including tables, toilets, a small bothy and a children's playground.
