The Principal theatre is the setting of many shows (plays, dance and music) during the whole year. It receives also the International Festival of Theatre and the concerts of the Symphony Orchestra of the Basque Country.

It has a seating capacity of 996, shared between the stalls and two galleries. During many years, it was a cinema, and after a remodelling, it became one of the most emblematic cultural institutions of the city.
