Busturia is the municipality that gives its name to the coastal comarca (county) of Busturialdea.

It is in a stunning natural location, surrounded by the Urdaibai wetlands, listed by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve and on the list of must-see places.

Architecture works and wide nature

The lordly palace of Altamira draws the visitor's attention, both because of its history and beauty. Dating back to the Middle Ages, it was built in the 10th century by Manso López and Gorritz de Madariaga. Another cultural monument worth visiting is the church of Santa María de Axpe, built in the 11th century. Finally, we should mention the Madariaga Tower, declared artistical-historical monument.

There are green pastures where we can go for a walk and enjoy the abundant nature of the spot surrounding all these treasures. Not in vain, Busturia is located within the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, whose wetlands deserve a special mention. There we can enjoy migratory birds.
