Wineries in the Basque Country
The winery was founded in 1910 by the grandfather of the current owner. At that time the headquarters was located in Elvillar and it was in 1978 when another winery was built at the town entrance. It 2005 a new project was undertaken in Laguardia, under the shelter of the Cantabrian mountain range. Grapes are picked from 30 hectares of vineyards belonging to the winery owners and family members. Located in Laguardia and Elvillar, some are even 100-years-old and the age average of the rest exceeds 40 years. The winery uses the most modern technology, although the production process is the traditional method of the Rioja Alavesa. It includes a private laboratory to carry out a responsible wine making practise committed to quality. "Ruiz de Viñaspe" (white, young, mature and grand mature) and "RV" (select red, white fermented in barrel and rosé fermented in barrel) brands are the winery's best introduction. Bodegas Ruiz de Viñaspe is part of the Rioja Alavesa Wine Route. That is the reason why it is possible to visit the headquarters and taste its wines but by previous arrangement.
