Montaña Alavesa

The Montaña Alavesa region is situated in the southeast of Álava. Its tiny valleys and mountains are scattered with medieval towns that have preserved their architectural heritage (walls, towers, palaces, stately mansions) and a rich religious heritage.

The Izki Natural Park is ideal for walking, admiring the flora and wildlife, or following one of the tourist routes. The region boasts a number of tracks and paths all perfectly signposted either PR or GR (the Spanish initials for short-distance and long-distance footpaths, respectively), such as the GR-38 Wine and Fish Route. The La Traviesa Interpretation Centre in Lagrán will be pleased to provide you with detailed information about all of these routes.

For mountain bike enthusiasts, the Izki-Montaña Alavesa MTB centre has a network of routes designed for all levels including professionals and beginners.

The Basque Navarre greenway also runs through the region dotted with old English-style buildings from the 19th century which used to keep watch over the old mining train. In Antoñana, a group of restored freight wagons house the greenway interpretation centre.

There are also numerous activities for the more adventurous, such as biking and equestrian trails, abseiling and canyoning, etc.

Meanwhile, golf lovers have a date at the Izki-Golf complex, which consists of the 18-hole Urturi course.
