The archaeological site of Iruña-Veleia covers over 1,500 years of history. From the first millennium before Christ until the 5th century after Christ, to be precise.
The site is a wide settlement of a surface area of 80 hectares containing potential remains of which 10 hectares belong to the late Roman city. Abundant archaeological remains, presence of protohistoric cultures, Roman culture (the first half of the Roman Empire and fall of Rome), and an epigraphic fragment from the 5th-9th centuries.
What is more, most part of the wall remains visible as well as the southern gate to the fortified settlement. A small reception centre provides graphic information and brochures to contextualise the tour. In addition, activities such as "La pieza de la temporada" (Season item) are arranged to show the latest finds.
Besides, there are also information panels and educational boards spread all over the place and a recommended tour perfectly marked and accompanied by a specific guide-map.
Winter hours: Tuesday to Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sundays and holidays, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Summer hours: Tuesday to Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sundays and holidays, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
