D'Museoa

D'Museoa is the San Sebastián diocesan museum, specialised in religious artworks.

Its origins lie in the major exhibition of liturgical and Eucharistic art organised in May 1946.

In the 60s and 80s, Manuel Lekuona and José María Zunzunegui scoured parish archives and sacristies in churches, chapels, monasteries and parochial houses in search of the imprint of religious history in the form of works of art. Thanks to their efforts and to restoration and conservation work, the pieces found have made it possible to recover a collective memory that reflects the history of the Basque people through their religious feeling.

The Museum today has a permanent collection made up of over 150 works of art (sculpture, painting and metalwork). They are mediaeval, modern and contemporary artworks, displayed in more than 400 square metres of floor space. Moreover, the Museum has several rooms devoted to temporary exhibitions.

In 2016 the Diocesan Museum was reopened in its new location on the Calle 31 de Agosto.
