Bilbao's Euskalduna Palace is the largest centre of this kind in the Basque Autonomous Region with room for more than 4,200 people divided into a big auditorium of 2,164 seats and 18 independent halls that can hold several performances at the same time.
Designed by architects Soriano and Palacios, it was opened in February 1999. The design symbolises the last ship built at the former Euskalduna shipyard, situated on the site where the present conference centre stands. It is an enormous multifunctional complex of 53,000 square metres located at the heart of the city. Its main stage of 1,770 square metres can hold the most ambitious performances of present day. The centre boast a simultaneous translation system (channels), recording equipment, screens, photocopier, fax, cordless Internet access, public-address system, offices for congress attendees, etc.
