The Old Town of Areatza stands out for its mixture of styles, where rural buildings combine with urban ones. The area with its ordinary and religious buildings is located parallel to the River Arratia. The Old Town's most aristocratic building is Gortazar Palace. The ground floor of ashlar stone was built at the end of 16th century and the upper brick-made storeys date back to the first third of the 17th century. Paintings decorating the facade are remarkable. The Neoclassical town hall was built in the 19th century. The arcade of the ground floor consists of eleven semicircular arches. The doorway of the Church of San Bartolomé is also worth a visit.
