The Guevara were a noble family. In this town bearing their name, they built a castle (in the 11th century) at the top of a hill. Centuries later, in the 14th century, the Guevara built the palace at the foot of that same hill. However, a tragedy affected these buildings and their dwellers during the Second Carlist War. Both were under siege and were totally destroyed.
During many years, this place was abandoned and empty, but, lately, the palace has been partially rebuilt.
