Cultural Heritage

The hermitage of Santa María Magdalena is located on the outskirts of the town, near the road coming from the coast. It dates back to the 14th century and, since then, part of the building functions as a hospital for pilgrims. The church, as is the case of others in Azpeitia, was tightly linked to Saint Ignatius of Loiola for he taught catechism there. In terms of architecture, the main façade consists of a portico with three semi-circular arches on the ground floor and brick decoration on the main floor. Restored in 1921 on the occasion of the 4th centenary of San Ignatio's wound in Pamplona-Iruña.
