The church of San Pedro is one of the main buildings in Zumaia because, as it is located over a hill, enjoys a privileged position in the village.
The temple's interior comprises a single space only, with Gothic features. Notable are, for instance, the cross ribbed vaults and the polygonal apse covered by a 16th century star-shaped vault.
The building has the appearance of a fortress, thus, it is thought that the building may have acted as a defense for the village in the past.
